The default occurs when HMRC does not receive all VAT due to your return and expiration date. The date on which the cleared funds reach the HMRC bank account is the relevant date. If the due date is not a working day, payment must be received on the last working day. The cheque must be correct in all respects and not post-dating. Otherwise, payment will not be made.
